Originally from Bainbridge Georgia, Bobby and his wife Jackie now reside inĀ Mexico Beach Florida.
After retirement from 35 years spent in the precise world of metal machining he became interested in woodturning . He began by crafting wooden pen and pecil sets and graduated to turning small bowls, an art which he learned with help from his late friend, Philip Keen. Following` a private showing of work by the master turners Ed, and son, Philip Moultrip, Bobby was inspired to attempt greater works and set his mind to turning much larger artifacts. Lathes capable of swinging bowls of up to 40" in diameter are not readily available in the average home improvement center so, Bobby, being an engineer and machinist, went ahead and built his own machine from scratch. His lathe, truly a monster of a woodchip maker, requires the aid of a large engine hoist to mount the rough lumber onto the plate.
Here he is transforming a perfectly good large piece of fire wood into a million small chips.

The "little piece" thats left over though will be a treasure.

What you looking at... Help me get this lot cleaned up.

Treasure in the raw. Bobby's stash of pecan logs.

Here's a piece roughed out with a chainsaw and ready to mount.

This piece has been rough turned to establish its form. It will now be left to dry and settle before being re-mounted and finished.
