PLANTER BOXESCurrently, I make two styles of planters. "Square" and "Round".
They are approximately 18" long by 8" wide and 8" high.
These boxes are designed to hold two 1 gallon plant pots and it is not recommended that they be directly filled with dirt.
Pressure treated yellow pine is my lumber of choice to build these items.
This
wood is extremely durable and rot resistant and the manufactures claim
that it is good for 30 years when in direct contact with, or buried, in
the ground.
Modern PT lumber is said to be much less toxic
than the products of 10 or so years ago but is unfortunately highly
corrosive. To combat this, I use stainless steel or specially coated
fasteners that are designed for use in this material.
Cypress is also available on request.

NATURAL. The green tints are from the copper which is used in the pressure treatment process. If left to weather they will turn the silver gray color typical of a pine deck.
STAINED BOXES. These are treated with a coat of light cedar stain/ waterproofing sealer. Re-coat them as necessary with the stain of your choice.

PAINTED BOXES. I much prefer to see the natural grain in wood but was asked to make some boxes painted with pastel colors. I was never really happy with these so took them into Jan's studio and let her loose on them. Here are the results so far.
